The Resiliency Tunnel will find it's home at the UW Farm, a 1.5 acre student-powered urban farm on the University of Washington's Seattle Campus. The UW Farm's mission is the following:
Our mission is to be the campus center for the practice and study of urban agriculture and sustainability, and an educational, community-oriented resource for people who want to learn about building productive and sustainable urban landscapes.
The proposed site for the Resiliency Tunnel is located close to a utility pole, water source, and an accessible road.
Harvesting renewable energy gives the Resiliency Tunnel the ability to take from the energy grid in the winter, be self-sustaining in the summer, and able to contribute back to the grid.
A water source in close proximity supplements irrigation provided from stormwater catchment during drier months.
The site is accessible year round via a paved road (Mary Gates Memorial Dr NE), in contrast to much of the UW Farm which becomes water-logged in the winter.
